The Hunter Leaves the Mountains, and the Empress Begs Him to Stop Showing Off

Longyan agent Gao Zhi'ang wakes up as a "scholar" in a border hunter's family.

His whole family scrapes by on tree bark to support his studies, but he's a useless wastrel who drinks, gambles, and visits brothels, and he's buried in gambling debts.

It's hell difficulty from the start: his sister-in-law is crying from hunger, his niece is so thin she's skin and bones, and his fiancée even shows up to break off their engagement.

Gao Zhi'ang shoves the Four Books and Five Classics into the stove.

"Why bother taking the scholar exam? In these chaotic times, a hard fist is the only iron rice bowl."

From then on, he sets out on a path of no return.

He hunts to pay off his debts, makes a name for himself in the military exams, joins the army at the border, and fights his way up from a common soldier to a great general who guards the nation.

Later, he meets a handsome, down-on-his-luck prince, and the two fight side by side, sweeping across the land.

At last, after fighting his way into the palace, he prepares to help the person on the throne ascend as emperor.

That person removes the crown and lets down a cascade of dark hair, then says to him:

"Gao Zhi'ang, will you take off my phoenix robe or not?"
