Synopsis

Physical constants are not numbers. They are the fates of living people. The speed of light, gravity, Planck’s constant: every pillar holding up the universe is borne by a living person. Constants can be rewritten, and changing one changes the fate of the person who carries it.

Hidden in the shadows of civilization, the Bureau of Constant Auditing hunts black-market criminals who use a single tampering pen to steal other people’s certainty and rewrite their fates. Shen Lü, the Bureau’s youngest chief auditor to earn a gold rating, was born with a pair of auditing eyes that can see constants.

He thought his life would amount to little more than checking books, catching criminals, and then settling into a quiet retirement. Then he took on a bizarre case in the border city of Linyuan: everyone on an entire street “remembered” the same neighbor who had never existed, and someone had “written” a new constant into being out of thin air.

It was impossible. Following this pristine constant, he came face to face with a shadow older than any criminal: a surviving consciousness from the previous collapsed universe, rewriting this universe’s physics one stroke at a time into a shape that would let it return. And behind it, deep in the universe, even older and more purposeless dangerous constants lay dormant, ready to surge forth at any moment.

The first constant it plans to alter is “consciousness” itself, and Shen Lü is the one who carries that constant. The closer he gets to the truth, the more he ceases to exist: the people around him are beginning to forget his face and his name. Before the whole world forgets him, he must investigate from the border black market to transnational networks and the ruins of constants, all the way to the abyss in the depths of the universe. He must go from an auditor who checks the books to someone who can rewrite constants, and uncover the final answer: is it the pen that can rewrite constants, or the one asking the question?

I’m in a Reading Slump and So Frustrated 😖 Everything’s So Boring. Please Recommend Something 😘

I can’t find any fresh, gripping books. I picked out a few at random, but the plots were either cliché or made me feel frustrated!! So annoying. Please recommend something fresh, everyone. No silly, naive female leads or stories that are frustrating to read. Get those out of here~ No entertainment-industry stories.

New Books Only! The More Underrated, the Better!

Any new book will do. I’m open to anything, especially books that haven’t gotten much attention. It’s hard being a new author, so let’s not leave them writing to an empty room, okay?

I'm Out of Things to Read. Tired of the Same Old Stories and Predictable Plots

I want a story about a transmigrated villainess changing her life, with a fresh plot, rich character relationships, goofy personalities, and strong values. It should include Douyin memes, and be written by an author who's always up to date with the latest trends.
