This World Is Full of Men. What's There to Fight Over?

With just three days until my due date, my stomach hurt and my water broke. My fiancé, Lu Youming, drove me to the hospital. As soon as we arrived, he turned to leave, speaking hurriedly: “I have to go get married. Today is Qian Nan and my wedding.” “A few days ago, I lost a game of dare with some friends. The wager was that if I lost, I’d have to hold a grand wedding with Qian Nan.” “It’s just a bet, and I have to honor it. It’s only a wedding; we won’t register our marriage.” “There’s no time. I have to go now. The doctors here are very professional, so just focus on having the baby.” “Once the wedding is over, Qian Nan and I will come see you.” I was in so much pain I could barely breathe. For a moment, heartbreak hurt even more than giving birth, and I was too stunned to speak. Zhou Qiannan was his childhood friend. They had always insisted theirs was a purely platonic friendship. This was supposed to be the day we had chosen to get married ten months ago. Since I was pregnant and a wedding wasn’t practical, we postponed it until next spring. Watching Lu Youming hurry away, I felt utterly hopeless. Next spring will come, but I won’t be keeping him.
