The Fog City Funeral Home has a secret: the moment embalmer Wen Xu touches a corpse, he can see the deceased's final twenty-four hours alive.
He saw the reporter Zhou Lan pushed from a rooftop, yet the file said “death by suicide.”
He saw an old pharmaceutical factory worker die on the operating table in Workshop Seven, yet the file said “accidental death.”
Every person he has laid to rest over the years was said to have died by “accident,” but his eyes told him the truth: they had been murdered. The same hand had altered their files, page by page.
Following the bodies, he delved into the deepest fog of Fog City and uncovered a name: White Whale.
Then one day, Wen Xu opened his own file and saw the words:
Wen Xu, deceased.
But he was still alive.
He was the only corpse in Fog City still breathing.
A corpse that had not yet been embalmed.
