[Rekindled romance + forced roommates + workplace rivals + urban ensemble + mutual growth + happy ending]
In her seventh year as a drifter in Shanghai, Lin Xia is just one project away from a promotion when she gets hit with a layoff warning and a notice from her landlord to move out.
Another name appears in the group chat about the lease: Zhou Xu, the ex she broke up with three years ago and hasn't seen since.
On a stormy night, the man stands outside her door with his suitcase. “There are still thirty days on the lease. I came back for my deposit.”
And so a line drawn across the fridge, two locked bedrooms, and three roommate rules declaring “We absolutely will not get back together” squeeze them back into their old life in a 38-square-meter apartment.
What's more absurd is that Zhou Xu is filming a documentary opposing the Changfeng Lane redevelopment project Lin Xia is in charge of pushing forward. By day, they clash across the conference table. At night, they battle over electricity, a bowl of noodles, and who gets to shower first.
Then Lin Xia discovers that a dead person has signed the project's consent form, while Zhou Xu realizes that what truly split them up back then was never a lack of love. They were both simply too good at making a plea for help sound dignified.
When the countdown to moving out reaches zero, they must decide: leave the old apartment together, or once again leave each other out of their futures.
