Siheyuan: My Cellar Connects to the Past and Present

Chen Ze was born in a small fishing village and grew up relying on the kindness of the whole community. Through hard work, he got into a Project 211 university, becoming the only student from his village ever to make it out and attend college. He had a bright future ahead of him, but after he started dating a girl at university, she and his good friend, who shared his dorm, set him up. By his second year, he had become the fall guy and was saddled with 500,000 yuan in debt.

To pay it off, he worked day and night as a porter, pushing himself to the limit to earn just over 20,000 yuan a month.

As a top student at a Project 211 university, he should have had a wonderful future. But three years of hauling loads had wrecked his health. Just before graduation in his fourth year, he finally paid off the 500,000 yuan debt.

He thought his girlfriend would marry him. Instead, she and his friend betrayed him, then posted a humiliating account of what he had been through on the university forum. They claimed he had gotten into debt because of his gambling addiction, and the university eventually advised him to leave.

In the end, four years of his life had gone to waste, all because of one woman. Utterly disillusioned, he chose to return to the little fishing village, far from all the scheming. With what remained of his life, he planned to repay the neighbors who had supported his education, even if it meant eating a little less or spending one yuan less themselves...

He would leave it all behind for good!
