Story One:

Su Yangling stood beside the empty seat, her features gentle as she spoke softly. “Hi, classmate.”

Beside her, Jiang Yuzhou sat ramrod straight, his profile cool and distant. He didn't respond to her greeting.

A moment later, the boy finally looked up, his tone detached. “You can sit down now.”

“Thanks.”

Su Yangling sat down and sorted out her textbooks. Then she took out a piece of candy and held it out to him. “A welcome gift for my new deskmate.”

Jiang Yuzhou glanced at the candy and declined flatly. “I don't eat sweets.”

“Then I'll bring you a different flavor next time,” she said, still gentle.

The boy furrowed his brow. His pen paused, and he said impatiently, “You're too noisy.”

On the day they first met, she awkwardly and earnestly tried to get close, while he shut her out with his coldness.

Story Two:

“Jiang Yuzhou, I don't think I have much longer.” She looked at Jiang Yuzhou, keeping watch by her bedside, his eyes bloodshot. Her voice was faint.

Jiang Yuzhou clutched her cold hand until his knuckles turned white. His voice trembled uncontrollably. “No. Nothing's going to happen to you.”

Tears filled Su Yangling's eyes, but she couldn't smile. “Jiang Yuzhou, you said your dream was to study medicine. Can you promise me something?”

His throat tightened. “All right, I promise. Just make it through this, and I'll do anything you ask.”

Su Yangling's gaze rested tenderly on his face, full of a grief she couldn't conceal. But she could only steel herself.

“Jiang Yuzhou, live well. Forget about me.”

A sob caught in Jiang Yuzhou's throat. He refused to let go of her hand. His desperate “No!” shattered the icy silence of the room.
