The strange tales aren't descending upon the world. They're being unsealed. The "Ruin," sealed away for a thousand years, is awakening and dragging ordinary people into rule-based instances.
Other people enter an instance hoping to make it out alive. Long Jian enters one to clock in for work.
By day, he's the night-shift security guard at a third-rate folk customs museum. His catchphrase is, "I prefer to lie flat first." By night, he's the world's only SSS-rank humanoid "Ruin": the sole surviving incarnation of the Old Yamen after it was formatted.
The rules say, "Maintain absolute silence." He pulls out a suona and plays "A Hundred Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix" for a stage full of strange-tale performers. An exam asks, "How much does a ghost weigh?" He writes down a physics formula and forces the examiner to change the rules on the spot. At the Midnight Yamen, he snatches the magistrate's block and declares, "Court dismissed!" His words take effect. At the night market, he sets up a stall selling "Soup Shop instant noodles," makes a fortune, and incidentally lures out the mysterious buyer seeking to acquire the magistrate's block.
Other people study the rules to stay alive. He studies them to find a back door. While everyone else is screaming, he's yawning, and even gives a serious critique: "The lighting in this scare is too dim, the sound effects are too loud. Try again."
He doesn't want to save the world. He just wants to lie flat. Unfortunately, every time he lies down, a strange tale comes crashing down on his head right on schedule.
So he has no choice but to gripe while breaking the entire world of strange tales.
The rules? All back doors for him. The instances? All his exam rooms. The night market? All his stalls.
First, lie flat. Come see which rule Long Jian breaks today.
Very nice, highly recommended
