On the day I graduated from college, I received a notice: I was inheriting my grandfather's position and becoming Night Watcher No. 1314.
The Night Watch Bureau is a mysterious agency that deals exclusively with supernatural incidents. On my first day, my supervisor tossed me a file:
“The old district east of the city. An S-class forbidden zone. It's yours to manage from now on.”
I was stunned. Even A-class Night Watchers went out of their way to avoid an S-class forbidden zone.
And then, on my very first day at work, a woman in a white dress walked out of the forbidden zone, glanced at me, and said:
“New here? You're nowhere near as good as the last one. At least he survived his first night.”
Only later did I learn that the previous Night Watcher in charge of this forbidden zone had been missing for three whole years.
And the woman in white was the most dangerous being in the city.
Three years later, at an emergency meeting at Night Watch Bureau headquarters:
“Report: Abnormal activity detected in an S-class forbidden zone!”
“What's the panic? Who's in charge of that place?”
“...A young man named Chen Ye. He's only twenty-six this year.”
“What rank is he now?”
“The Night Watch Bureau's highest clearance level. Codename: ‘Nightkeeper.’”
