The only thing that matters in this world is whether your word can be trusted.
This world was forged from three ancient vows.
Those who keep their vows gather seals; those who break them see their seals shatter. From the beginning of time until now, this has been the one unchanging rule.
On a winter night in the Northern Wasteland, the wind cuts to the bone.
Three boys made their first vow in the snow. None of them could have imagined
that they would spend their whole lives paying for those words.
Pei Jin keeps to the word "Righteousness." He speaks little and sticks stubbornly to his principles. Once he gives his word, not even a blade at his throat can make him take it back.
Su Huai keeps to the word "Benevolence." Gentle and warm, he is always ready to shield others, and just as ready to shoulder the burden himself.
Huo Lie keeps to the word "Courage." Brash and impulsive, he acts before he thinks, but never backs down.
Then the world changed, and the sky came crashing halfway down.
Some people sold the words they had spoken for wealth and status.
Others swallowed their words to save their own lives.
Only those three remained where they stood,
picking up, one by one, the words they had once spoken.
This gift was something they earned themselves, one kept promise at a time.
For everyone who still believes that a person's word should mean something.
