Tomb Raiding: The Zhang Family of the Nine Gates Favors Qi the Eighth Master

[All about the Eighth Master × a Nine Gates spin-off × everyone dotes on him × a captivating beauty who knows how to lure them in × sweetness overload]

Everyone says there are four people in the Zhang family of the Nine Gates you don’t want to cross.

Zhang Qishan, the Buddha Lord: powerful and ruthless, yet he spoils the Eighth Master Qi beyond all reason.

Zhang Rishan, the adjutant: meticulous and always several steps ahead, yet willing to serve the Eighth Master Qi at his beck and call.

Zhang Xiaoyu, a devoted, domesticated husband: hardworking and easygoing, he would never go against the Eighth Master Qi’s wishes.

Zhang Xiao Jin, sharp-tongued and cunning: he may be cutting with his words, but if anyone dares lay a finger on the Eighth Master Qi, he’ll be the first to object.

The Eighth Master Qi isn’t particularly capable, but he sure knows how to cause trouble. Today he wrecks a Nine Gates gathering, tomorrow he provokes a notorious figure in the underworld, and the day after that he burns half of the Buddha Lord’s study.

And yet, these four men of the Zhang family guard him like the apple of their eye. They won’t hit him or scold him, and if anyone so much as says a harsh word to him, someone will come knocking to “share tea and have a heart-to-heart.”

Before long, a saying spreads through Changsha: Cross the Nine Gates, and you might lose a leg. Cross the Eighth Master Qi, and the Zhang family will turn your house upside down.

But the Eighth Master is a captivating beauty who doesn’t even realize how good he is at stringing people along. A flutter of his peach-blossom eyes, and three adjutants are fighting for a chance to take his place at his side. A tilt of his head and a smile, and the Buddha Lord personally cleans up all his messes.

Someone asks, “Eighth Master, what kind of spell did you cast on those four Zhang men?”

Qi Ba Ye chews on a candied hawthorn skewer and answers indistinctly, “How… would I know?”

Behind him, four gazes fall on him at once, warm and indulgent. You may not know, but we do, and that’s enough.
