At the age of nine, Liuyue stood among the spectators at the World Go Championship finals and watched her father collapse beside the board.

After the funeral, Liuyue placed a stone on her family's ancestral Qing dynasty Go board, awakening Bai Ziqiu, a Go master whose spirit had slept for three hundred years.

While others learn Go from coaches, she has a master from three centuries ago personally teaching her every move.
