Greek Mythology: After the Sun Fell

After Phaethon died, Olympus wanted only to find a conclusion to the disaster.

But Clymene refused to accept one.

She did not want to know “who killed her son.” What she wanted to know was this: how many gods had pushed that boy, step by step, into the chariot of the sun?

Only when the tide first flooded the temple did the gods finally remember:

The woman who had always been called “the mother of the Son of the Sun” was herself an ancient goddess.
