When the September 18th Incident broke out in Guping County, at the southern foot of the Taihang Mountains, Zhao Mu, a primary school teacher and underground member of the Communist Party of China, resolutely put down his pointer and swore an oath to the old leader Liu Zihou: "Take off your long robe, join the army with a pen, and pick up weapons to fight the Japanese invaders to the end!" That night, the two decided on a division of labor: Zhao Mu applied to the military academy, studied military affairs, and joined the army; Liu Zihou continued to lurk, secretly accumulating strength, and waiting for the opportunity.
Six years later, the July 7th Incident ignited the all-out war of resistance. Zhao Mu, already the company commander of the national army, was ordered to defend Shanghe Town. After the tragic and bloody battle, there were only a few survivors. He led his troops back to Guping and joined the Guping detachment of the Eighth Route Army. He reunited with Liu Zihou and went to the anti-Japanese battlefield together.
In order to smash the Japanese raids, Zhao Mu led four consecutive night raids on Guping County, forcing the Japanese troops who entered the mountains to rush back for reinforcements. The reputation of the "Lone Hero Company" spread throughout Taihang.
He relied on Shijiazhai, Xiaojiabao, Yelugou and other favorable terrain to build strong fortresses, which repeatedly defeated the Japanese army and created a battlefield miracle in which the weak defeated the strong.
He was wise, courageous, foresighted, mobilized the masses, and gradually strengthened the Guping detachment.
He personally led the army and civilians to open up wasteland and cultivate land, take in refugees, rebuild their homes, and lay the foundation of the anti-Japanese base area.
Under his leadership, a group of commanders and warriors with both civil and military skills grew rapidly, and eventually led the military and civilians to regain their homes that had been trampled upon by the Japanese invaders.
This is a passionate anti-Japanese epic that witnesses the legendary story of a teacher who was tempered into steel during the years of war.
