Su Wancheng had accepted it: she was physically attracted to Zhou Chongming, plain and simple.
When she was little, even though he was all the way in America studying at MIT, she would mail him her homework and monopolize his time, making him do her summer assignments in the MIT lab. His handwriting even had to look like hers, or the teacher would notice.
She called him across the ocean every day, even if all he did was answer, half-asleep, “I’m listening.”
Later, her brother pulled the phone line out, explaining, “It’s nighttime where Uncle Zhou is, and he has a girlfriend.”
After that, she was “coaxed and tricked” into marrying him.
She really did feel like she’d been tricked. On their wedding night, she was so nervous that she hid in the kitchen and wouldn’t come out.
After they married, she discovered that Zhou Chongming and her father were tied together in a fifteen-billion-yuan business deal. Her marriage was one part of that arrangement, too.
During the day, she ignored him and pushed him away, keeping a physical distance between them. At night, they shared a bed, and her body would go along with him completely against her will.
That physical attraction was something she truly couldn’t help!
If she couldn’t afford to provoke him, she could at least run away, couldn’t she?
She decided to move out.
But the man who used to pretend he knew nothing about her crush now wouldn’t let her escape, no matter what.
What she didn’t know was that
Three years earlier, he had shifted his battlefield from the lab to the boardroom, acquired private equity firms, then pledged his shares and established a project limited partnership fund. He had done all of it just to pull her out of the arranged marriage she had been destined for, then come to be by her side himself.
