In 1989, Wu Xiuli, a girl from a rural area in Northeast China, went to the city to follow her boyfriend Li Xuegang despite her mother's objections, but was deceived, exploited and maliciously retaliated by him. When she was desperate, Xu Yunfeng, a teacher from Jiangcheng Normal University, extended a helping hand and protected her at every turn.
