A PhD student in psychology who studied in France was slandered and sent to a lunatic asylum. She used hypnosis that combined metaphysics and medicine to transform patients and establish an underground order within the hospital walls. When she was chosen to treat her amnesiac fiancé, the Marshal, she discovered that he did not really have amnesia, but was using his abnormal ability in the "false memory field" to protect himself and evade liquidation.
