The background of this book is a story that happened in Shantou at the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China. It mainly describes the resistance of the people of Shantou against Japan. As well as major events that occurred in the Chaoshan area, such as the hurricane on August 2, 1922, and the fall of Shantou on June 21, 1939. It also involves the story of pirates and Japanese pirates back then.
