At the military compound, Zhu Jie was still reviewing the last combat report.
The next second, the sky went dark.
It wasn’t a power outage. The entire military district, people and all, along with its barracks, ammunition depots, and family housing at the foot of the mountain, had been hurled into a completely unfamiliar world.
All satellite signals were gone. The voices coming over the radio were broadcasting victory in Japanese and German. This was the world of The Man in the High Castle.
History had been twisted beyond recognition. The streets of this world flew the Rising Sun and the Iron Cross.
Zhu Jie stood before the operations map, eyes bloodshot.
Behind him, hundreds of thousands of soldiers stood in formation as missile launchers slowly rose into position.
When German and Japanese reconnaissance planes appeared on the horizon, Zhu Jie slammed his fist down on the map. “Let’s show them what it means that truth lies within the range of our guns.”
The first missile tore through the night, trailing a long flame as it struck the enemy command post a hundred miles away with pinpoint accuracy.
The fiery explosion lit up the entire sky, illuminating the horrified faces of everyone in this world.
Later, a line was added to this world’s history books:
“That day, disaster descended from the heavens.”
They didn’t know what a missile was. They only knew this:
An iron-blooded army from a parallel universe had come to teach this world a lesson with firepower.
