My Name Is on the First Line of the Death File

In his third year working the night shift at a funeral home, Shen Yu finds his own date of death on the first line of a half-burnt old file.

It records only the outcome, not the cause. He survives that night, but his death is carried forward on the books: in forty-five nights, with interest.

After that, a new death trap appears each night at midnight. Every life he saves costs the world another strike; the more people he rescues, the more the police suspect he's the killer. At the top of the death file, three faded red characters are stamped: Release Order.
