Espionage in the War of Resistance: Capturing a Japanese Spy from the Start

[Republican-era spy thriller] [Reborn] [Killing from the start] [Golden finger] [Knowledge of history]

Late autumn, 1936. After graduating from the ninth class at Whampoa, Zang Yunfei was assigned to the Operations Section of the Military Intelligence Department.

On his very first day in the field, a grenade exploded among them, sending his colleagues' flesh and blood flying.

The pine tree in his mind gave a sudden, stabbing warning. He rolled behind a broken water vat, then fired twice over his shoulder, shattering a Japanese spy's knees.

Dai Jiaren: “What the hell, is this guy a recruit?”

Zang Yunfei: (expressionless) “Just lucky.”

That night, he dug up three thousand taels of ownerless gold and cashed it in for eighteen thousand pounds the next day. He bought up land in Chongqing and tied Baoding faction bigwigs to him with thirty percent equity stakes. For fifty silver dollars, he bought the lives of an entire family of low-ranking patrolmen.

The interrogation section tortured a Japanese spy until he was little more than a living corpse, and the whole department was at its wits' end, each section trying to pass the buck. He pressed one finger to the brow of the dying man. Dead drops, contact codes, and the codename of his superior all poured into his mind like scenes from a movie.

Then he saw the two words carved into a copper coin: Kite.

At the very top of the military intelligence apparatus lurked a Japanese spy ace.

This time, he would flip the table all by himself.
