[Farming + plot-driven + development + conquering the world]
Lin Xia transmigrates to a barren ancient land in a year of famine, where people can barely get enough to eat or stay warm. He’s on the verge of freezing to death in the snow.
Luckily, he binds to a Daily Fortunes System.
[Today’s fortune] There’s a roe deer that just fell to its death beneath a big tree on the back hill. If you don’t hurry, someone else will take it.
[Today’s fortune] There are several century-old ginseng plants in the Korean pine forest on the north slope. Dig them up before the snow damages them, and they’ll retain their full value.
[Today’s fortune] In a cave twenty li away, bandits have hidden a stash of food. They’re dead now, due to unforeseen circumstances, so you can take it without worry.
With the System’s help, Lin Xia survives one disaster after another.
Little by little, his barns fill with grain and meat, and his people grow strong and numerous.
When he finally looks back, he’s gone from having nothing to being richer than a nation.
Another winter comes. An aide drapes a golden coat over Lin Xia’s shoulders. “The weather’s turning, my lord. Please put on another layer.”
Lin Xia smiles bitterly. “You... you’ve truly made life hard for me.”
I have read so many "Desolate Years" novels and this one is the most annoying one. The male protagonist is pure and innocent. When something happens, he either shows weakness to the enemy or pretends to be a pig to eat feed. He has never taken revenge on others. Later, after the male protagonist got ginseng, a few beggars stole one. The male protagonist returned the favor and gave them some buns and copper coins.
Greedy author,
