The Urban Keeper of the Classic of Mountains and Seas

A bustling city hides demons and monsters, while the smoke of everyday life conceals mountains and seas. A thousand years ago, the Shanhai Bureau collapsed, throwing the two worlds out of balance. Benevolent spirits went into hiding, while evil entities ran rampant. A thousand years later, Lin Yan, a modern criminal investigator, awakens the legacy of the last Appraiser and becomes the sole arbiter between the city and the mountains and seas. He walks the narrow divide between the law and the spirit realm, using his discerning eyes to see through the world's illusions, warding sigils to quell the havoc wrought by strange beasts, and his own heart to judge the good and evil of humans and spirits. A rampaging beast may not be mad at heart; the darkness in human hearts is the true bane of the world. A conspiracy spanning a thousand years comes to light: the Demon Expulsion Pavilion has deliberately stoked conflict between humans and spirits, seeking to slaughter all living beings and usurp the legacy of the mountains and seas. In his police uniform, Lin Yan carries on an ancient tradition, wielding the Shanhai Mirror to judge the countless disputes of the human world and preserve peace between the two realms.
