A sudden, powerful evil force poses a deadly threat to Earth, and no superhero can stand against it alone. S.H.I.E.L.D., which has long worked to protect the safety of the world, is caught off guard. Its commander, Nick Fury, known as "the one-eyed man" and played by Samuel L. Jackson, realizes he must create the "greatest-ever" alliance, bringing together superheroes from all walks of life to join forces, save the world from peril, and fend off the onslaught of darkness.
