When Lu Ji'an pushed open the door of the old house, the wooden door creaked and a few pieces of dust fell down.
The cracks in the stone steps in the yard were covered with grass. The lock on the door to the hall was rusty and turned green. The key was inserted and turned three times before it clicked open. Before she stepped in, there was a series of footsteps behind her.
"Oh, we're really here." The third aunt rushed in first, with a black leather bag on her shoulder. She scanned the main room with her eyes first, "Well, your grandma just left, and you came back in a hurry. You are well-informed."
He Zhixu stood half a step behind Lu Ji'an and said nothing, just changing the hands of the cardboard box he was carrying. Inside the box were some old clothes and a few notebooks that grandma had sent to Lu Ji'an before she died. The mailing date was two months ago, when grandma could still walk to the post office in the town by herself.
The aunt walked around from the kitchen without taking off her apron. She still held a handful of green onions in her hand and stood on the threshold: "Ji'an, I'm not telling you. Your mother had nothing to do with this family when she got married. What does it mean for you to come back now?"
