Scientist Su Yan dies in a car accident. But instead of going to heaven or hell, he is told by a faceless figure in red robes:
“You are the key. You are the door. You are the last god.”
He is thrown into a strange world called the Fool God's Game. Its rules are stitched together from ancient mythologies around the world: the Norse tree of causality, Egypt's judgment of the dead, China's Qimen Dunjia. They have all been written into a strict “card rulebook.”
Su Yan has no supernatural abilities and no combat skills, only a mind that never stops working.
While his teammates flee in terror through a hidden passage in a Mayan pyramid, he calculates the angle of error between the bricks in the walls. When the “God of Sophistry” tries to strangle him with seven paradoxes at once, he asks, “Does your ‘seven’ count as a paradox?”
He travels through the world's mythologies, exposes every god's hidden hand, and tears apart every rule that seems impossible to defy. While every other player is playing the game the “gods” designed, Su Yan wants only one thing:
Find the game's underlying code, then kick the “gods” out.
But just as he finally nears the truth, Jiang Ling, the gatekeeper whose intellect matches his own, whispers in his ear:
“Everything you've calculated is correct. But have you ever considered... what if you're just a line of code too?”
