Question of the Day: Has the Chief Secretary Won His Wife Back Yet?

Intense push and pull | Reunion after years apart | Forced love | Both leads are devoted to each other

Jiang Lingge has a secret.

Five years ago, she spent three nights in the arms of a powerful, high-ranking man.

He had been poisoned with an aphrodisiac and needed a woman to help him dispel it.

Once the deed was done, she received three thousand taels of silver.

With the money in hand, Jiang Lingge changed her identity and went to Yancheng.

She gave birth to a lovely daughter, opened a restaurant, and met the man she loved.

She thought life would go on in blissful harmony.

Until one day, a wealthy merchant surnamed Cui came to Yancheng on business.

He told her, "Ling-niang likes wealth and status. I can give you all of that."

Jiang Lingge replied, "I'm sorry, Master Cui, but my heart already belongs to someone else."

She thought that after turning him down, life would return to normal.

Before long, the prefect of Yancheng was deposed and executed in the middle of the street.

And the man who ordered it was none other than the wealthy merchant who had come to Yancheng on business.

Only then did Jiang Lingge realize in terror that this so-called "wealthy merchant" had the power to control an entire region and decide who lived or died.

Fear crept into her heart. She sold her restaurant in the middle of the night and took her daughter to seek refuge with her lover in Yanjing.

Just as she thought life could be happy and peaceful again,

one day her lover told her he was taking her to the Qujiang Banquet.

She readily agreed.

The banquet hall was filled with officials.

The Grand Secretary, seated in the place of honor, looked up.

His face was exactly the same as that of the wealthy merchant who had pursued her in Yancheng.
