The towering walls of the imperial palace have trapped countless women for their entire lives, but they cannot confine two hearts determined to survive against the odds.
Shen Meizhuang is the main protagonist on the surface.
Once gentle, dignified, and dutiful, she endures the trials of the inner palace, the emperor’s cold indifference, and her family’s shifting fortunes. Little by little, she sheds her innocence, finding ways to survive amid thorns, protect the Shen family, and break the game. From a noble consort who never competed or fought for favor, she transforms into a formidable strategist who sees through the emperor’s schemes, wields power, and dares to stir up the court.
Wei Yu is the second protagonist behind the scenes.
She carries the Heaven and Earth Society’s mission to overthrow the Qing, and lies low in the imperial palace, concealing her sharp edge and deep-seated hatred. Hiding all her cards and talents, she quietly protects and guides Shen Meizhuang in the name of an elder sister, gradually revealing her convictions and grand ambitions. She does not seek a quick triumph, but waits to reveal the truth little by little, helping the most perceptive person by her side see through the shackles of the Qing and the emperor’s machinations.
