Ji Sichen, a modern-day researcher, transmigrates through a time tunnel to the fourth year of the Republic of China. She disguises herself as a personal maid and stays by Yun Wanrou's side, determined to change her great-grandmother's tragic fate: being stripped of her inheritance by her husband and blinded with poison. She will protect Yun Wanrou at all times and keep her from ever encountering Long Xiaoqian, the man who destroyed her life.
But, as it turns out, Long Xiaoqian has had his eye on the fabulously wealthy Yun Wanrou for some time. He repeatedly arranges to run into her, hoping to ruin her reputation and take the opportunity to marry her. Every time, however, Ji Sichen foils his plans.
When Long Xiaoqian realizes he has no chance of marrying Yun Wanrou, he schemes to marry another rich young woman, Lin Guiqiu. With his father-in-law's wealth behind him, he recruits troops and builds an army. In less than a year, he becomes a notorious warlord in Jiangnan. Yet he still hasn't given up on Yun Wanrou, who remains unmarried. He repeatedly tries to destroy the Yun family, all so he can claim her for himself.
With her sharp wits and remarkable fighting skills, Ji Sichen rescues Yun Wanrou from danger time and again...
