I, Gong Shu, Am Determined to Leave the Juntong and Stay Away from Zheng Yaoxian

Among all spy dramas, Gong Shu is the most loyal to the Party-State and the unluckiest villain of them all. Even at the moment of his death, he still believes that his Sixth Brother merely lost his faith and betrayed the Party-State. He simply refuses to believe that Zheng Yaoxian was a Communist spy all along. Zhang Ping, a modern office worker who loves watching spy dramas in his spare time, never imagined he would become this hapless character from one. On October 7, 1945, as soon as Zhang Ping, now Gong Shu, walked out of the Wang Jingwei regime’s prison, he fled Shanghai as if his life depended on it and rushed to Hong Kong. He never wanted to see Zheng Yaoxian again for as long as he lived. He never did see Zheng Yaoxian, but his name had already made it onto the highest authorities’ desks. If he had known things would turn out this way, Gong Shu would have slapped himself twice and never written that article. As the saying goes, leaving the Military Statistics Bureau is no easy feat. Even after it became the Bureau of Investigation and Statistics, Gong Shu’s name remained on its personnel list; getting away from Zheng Yaoxian is even harder. Even when Gong Shu escaped to Hong Kong, Zheng Yaoxian showed up in Hong Kong. When Gong Shu fled to America, Zheng Yaoxian showed up there, too. In the end, Gong Shu finally snapped. “What will it take for you to leave me alone?” Dai Chunfeng, Mao Renfeng, and Zheng Yaoxian answered in unison: “We bet you still have chapters of your novel saved up. Hurry up and update!”
