A Renovator’s 360-Degree Circle

People should read more, but the more they read, the smaller and more ignorant they feel. A life full of possibilities and unknowns does not undergo a major change just because you get to live it over. Your background, IQ, emotional intelligence, and so on do not change enough to transform your life when you start again. We have no way to break free of our shackles, because those shackles are social class and divisions between groups. All we can do is struggle along the fixed course of our lives and try not to make things too hard for ourselves. Even if we start over, everything starts over too: there is no foreknowledge, no golden finger, just a mature way of thinking and a certain store of knowledge. Everything else is unknown. So let us explore this new unknown, and experience the rise and fall of a city and an industry, as well as the way ordinary people at the bottom make their way through life. This book includes all kinds of unspoken rules: to climb the ladder, secure orders, indulge oneself, and more.
