I Run a Coffee Shop and Work Part-Time for the Underworld

The Elk Coffee Shop has one rule: anyone who comes in after midnight isn’t alive.

A water ghost orders an iced Americano without ice, saying it was always his favorite when he was alive. A boy who died in a car accident spends seven days’ worth of merit just to buy a cup of hot milk for the mother who cried all night outside the operating room. By day, Liu Ran sells coffee to the living; by night, she runs errands for the dead, earning a warm stream of merit to mend the piece of her immortal bone that broke off.

Then the little girl ghost who comes every month to buy strawberry cookies stands at the counter and asks her, “Is my little sister... still alive?”

A “heart transplant” job uncovers a century-old case involving an automaton master. A River God’s lamp that was confiscated shines a light on a red fish on the verge of vanishing. A company that chants “I consent” like a spell has set its sights on the only family Liu Ran has among the living.

And the cold-faced judge of the Underworld is looking at her in a more and more peculiar way.

“Liu Ran, you still haven’t paid off what you owe.”

She remembers nothing. But someone remembers for her.
