At twenty-six, Shen Zhi'an works as a digitization clerk at the municipal archives.
Eighteen years ago, his father disappeared after a bizarre bus accident.
Official records listed thirteen people killed in the accident. But while sorting through old photographs, Shen Zhi'an spotted a fourteenth person at the scene. It was his father.
On the final page of the file was a line his father had left behind:
Do not complete the thirteenth mission.
That night, at 12:44 a.m., an undeletable app appeared on Shen Zhi'an's phone.
[The Return Home System has been activated.]
[First mission: Take the last Route 44 bus and get off at the terminus.]
[Special reminder: There is no ticket collector on this bus. If anyone tries to sell you a ticket, close your eyes immediately.]
Downstairs, a bus that had been out of service for eighteen years slowly pulled into the stop.
