Opening a Nuo Exorcism Hall in My Paper Effigy Shop: One Man, One Dog, and Three Gods

Other people open paper effigy shops to burn paper money. I opened one to revive the Nuo tradition. The Door Gods suppress evil spirits, while my husky tears apart the altar!

I inherited a paper effigy shop and became the last altar master in a lost branch of ancient Nuo tradition.

Wu Nuo was an ancient ritual practice that used paper figures made from paper mulberry and bamboo to worship the gods and enlist their aid in guarding the many gates of the world. Even today, there are still plenty of Nuo ritual performers who carry out ordinary ceremonies to drive off misfortune and fulfill vows. But the ancient branch that could summon eighteen Nuo Door Gods has long since fallen into decline.

In the great Nuo ritual of antiquity, eighteen Door Gods guarded the boundary between yin and yang. When catastrophe struck, the powers of fifteen shattered, leaving only the remnants of Tang Hong, Ge Yong, and Zhou Wu, who took refuge in paper bodies.

With no living Nuo troupe to help me, I make paper figures to serve as altar attendants and open a lone, incomplete Nuo gate to protect my home.

The scattered fragments of divine power are restless, constantly burrowing into my husky.

One moment, the Three Primordial Generals solemnly suppress evil spirits. The next, the dog turns around and chews through the bamboo strips of a paper figure, leaving chaos at the altar.

Recover the lost fragments of the Door Gods and renew the ancient pact of the Nuo gate. It all begins at this paper effigy shop.
