Synopsis

[Chinese-style Horror + Folk Legends + Entertainment Industry + Metaphysics + Episodic Stories + Mutual Salvation + Contemporary Romance]

The first time Li Yueman saw top-tier star Su Zichen, she stared at him for a full ten seconds.

His manager eyed her warily. “Miss Li, Mr. Su doesn't take photos with fans.”

Li Yueman: “I wasn't looking at him.”

“Then what were you looking at?”

“The seven ghosts behind him.”

The manager was speechless.

Su Zichen, however, smiled.

At last, someone could see them.

Su Zichen was known throughout the entertainment industry as a gentle top-tier star. He was sunny and cheerful in front of the cameras, but in private, his greatest wish was to die in peace for a little while.

He couldn't help it.

Other people attracted haters. He attracted ghosts.

While filming a period drama, he found a corpse hanging from the rafters. During a variety show, a dead body turned out to be one of the guests. At a hotel, someone leaned over his bed in the middle of the night and asked if he was asleep.

Then he met Li Yueman.

Li Yueman was the last inheritor of the art of paper effigy making. Born with yin-yang eyes, she could use paper figures to communicate with the dead and guide departed souls on their way.

When other people encountered ghosts, they ran.

When she encountered ghosts, she said, “Since you're here, tell me how you died.”

From then on, the entertainment industry took a bizarre turn.

Paper brides, life-borrowing rituals, ghost opera troupes, ghost soldiers crossing the road, living people used to suppress tombs...

One long-lost folk taboo after another began to resurface.

But after digging into it all, they discovered that the ghosts behind Su Zichen had never appeared by chance.

Someone was raising ghosts. Someone was borrowing lives. Someone was using living people to stabilize their feng shui.

And the person who truly wanted to open the path to the underworld had been waiting twenty years for Li Yueman.

After death, what people can't let go of is never death itself.

It's regret.

Looking for Books About Genuine Taoist Priests, Written by Authors Who Really Know Their Classics and the Basics of the Different Schools

Looking for books like Traditional Martial Arts: Slacking Off Back in the Village? I’ll Train and Become a Martial Arts Saint. I want something written by an author who’s genuinely well-read in Daoist classics and knows their stuff. Don’t recommend anything written by someone who hasn’t done their homework. The protagonist shouldn’t be too young and should be mature-minded. If they’re too young and immature, I’m not interested...

Metaphysics: A Powerful, Knowledgeable Heroine Who’s Good at Everything

Romance for the heroine is optional. I just want her to be very familiar with the Underworld and have good relationships there. The Underworld’s residents can be afraid to mess with her, or she can be their favorite. She should know lots of powerful people, whether in Heaven, the Underworld, or the human world.

Female Protagonist Is a Metaphysics Expert, Not in Showbiz

Growth stories are fine too. Modern supernatural fiction, but mainly no showbiz, and preferably no romance. Are there any? It feels like fewer and fewer stories like this are being written.
