Before I Met You

When my ex-girlfriend walks back onto my campus, all the love and resentment of the past come surging back.

She still cares for me, but buries every feeling deep inside and refuses to speak up again.

The campus belle, admired by everyone, also quietly keeps her secret crush to herself, never letting it show.

In the noisy classroom, our shoulders brush in the hallway.

Two unspoken affections quietly linger through the days of youth.

All those silent stirrings and irreparable regrets are frozen in time, before I met you.
