Daoist Priest, Please Log In

On the tenth day after being laid off, Chen Xuan found a banner.

It read: “Human Emperor Banner · Genuine Product · Seven-Day No-Questions-Asked Returns (subject to a merit-point processing fee).”

From then on, his life went like this:

Exorcise a ghost, earn 1 merit point. Save up 100 points and summon a ghost soldier.

Chen Xuan stared at the progress bar. “I have to exorcise a hundred ghosts just to recruit one underling??”

Later, his ghost-soldier squad grew:

The code ghost scraped data and wrote trojans;

The accountant ghost tallied merit points and balanced the books;

The delivery ghost ran errands and delivered talismans...

Someone asked him, “You’re so awesome. Why do you still live in an old residential complex?”

Chen Xuan: “Because merit points can’t be exchanged for cash.”

Then one day, someone on the dark web offered a bounty of 500,000 for his head.

Chen Xuan unfurled the banner and said to the ghost soldiers behind him:

“Boys, log in.”

He’s decisive and ruthless, but always leaves people a way out. His principles are rock-solid, though his mouth can be a little sharp.

This is a lighthearted story about an unemployed programmer who switches careers to become a Taoist priest and leads a bunch of goofy ghost soldiers in the fight for justice.
