There is an old flat cave at the foot of Kunlun Mountain. It was drilled in 1958 and marked "straight" on the drawing.
Mu Cheng went to test it. Calculating the coordinates of the two cave entrances, the straight line is 4,213 meters; walking out of the cave one station at a time, it is 5,009 meters.
A difference of seven hundred and ninety-six.
He retested four times. On the fourth pass, he saw two characters scratched with nails on the cave wall: "Don't count."
Later he found the sealed report from 1958. The same number, the same hole, a list of seven people, and the fourth name is - Mu Cheng.
That year, he was not born yet.
Only later did he learn that in the "Jing of Mountains and Seas: Nanshan Jing", the total number of mountains in the three classics was forty-one, but the total number listed at the end of the volume was forty. One mountain is missing, three hundred miles.
By its own admission, this book has lost its way over a mountain.
And that mountain is now pressing under his feet.
Looks good, really good
