[Both leads reborn + morally unrestrained + feigned affection turns to true love + groveling pursuit after the breakup + both leads have no other partners + using each other]
“Reborn and not putting up with him anymore” vs. “Possessive man who realizes his feelings too late”
Everyone in their circle knew Zhou Jihuai kept a canary. Chi Ying behaved as long as he paid her, coming whenever he called and leaving whenever he pleased.
She opened her eyes and found herself back three years earlier.
Just like before, Zhou Jihuai pushed a black card toward her and said coolly, “Live at my place. Be ready whenever I call.”
Chi Ying bent the card and tossed it onto the table. “I’m done.”
He didn’t even look up. “Don’t make a fuss. I’ll throw in a villa in the south of the city.”
Chi Ying pushed her chair back and stood, looking down at Zhou Jihuai.
“Zhou Jihuai.”
“I don’t want to play anymore. I’m bored.”
Zhou Jihuai thought Chi Ying was just throwing a tantrum.
Three days later, he spotted her from a distance. She was wearing a blue dress and looked strikingly confident.
Zhou Jihuai sent her a message: It’s been three days. Aren’t you done throwing your tantrum yet?
The message went through, followed by a red exclamation mark.
“Fine, Chi Ying. You’ve got guts.”
Chi Ying thought Zhou Jihuai was only pursuing her because the novelty hadn’t worn off. She believed she had never mattered to him, that he could take or leave her.
Until the accident that day, when an out-of-control car came barreling straight toward her.
Zhou Jihuai shoved her out of the way, but he was sent flying by the impact. Everyone said he must have lost his mind. He was so afraid of dying, yet he’d risked his life without a second thought.
Zhou Jihuai lay unconscious in the ICU for three days. During those three days, memories of his past life came flooding back.
After twenty whole years, he had finally seen her again.
Thirty-year-old Zhou Jihuai looked at twenty-six-year-old Chi Ying standing by his hospital bed. He wanted to reach out and touch her face, but his fingers were trembling.
“Chi Ying, I’m sorry. I’ve been looking for you for so long.”
