Lu Weibai tossed him an umbrella and walked away in the rain. He didn’t know that the other person stood there, rain-soaked, slender fingers gently rubbing the lingering warmth on the umbrella’s handle as he watched Lu Weibai’s retreating figure disappear at the end of the alley.

After class, Lu Weibai asked, “What did you just call me?”

Song Yuhan looked up, wearing an unmistakably innocent expression. “I didn’t call you anything.”

“You did,” Lu Weibai said.

“Brother Wei, you’re so fierce,” Song Yuhan said.

Lu Weibai froze as if someone had tapped his pressure point.

When that name came out of Song Yuhan’s mouth, half his body went numb.

Lu Weibai took the water but didn’t drink it. He put it back in Song Yuhan’s hand and said, “Finish yours first, then we’ll talk.”

“I want to drink the one that tastes like yours,” Song Yuhan said.

“They’re both the same flavor,” Lu Weibai replied.

“Yours is sweeter.”

Lu Weibai nearly choked on thin air.

Lu Weibai lowered his head and smiled. This time, he didn’t say, “Whatever you want.” Instead, he said, “Then I’ll go play basketball too. You work on your problems, and I’ll take a look at you.” He paused, then added softly, “Though when I look at you, it’ll be more than just one glance.”

Song Yuhan didn’t reply. But Lu Weibai clearly saw that when he lowered his head to leaf through his textbook, the tips of his ears were red.

Spring really was coming.
