Eight years after documentary director Gu Mingci disappeared, Chao Shui returned her red suitcase to Luzhou. Reporter Jiang Wen, who had reported the case, immediately received a letter from the deceased at the same time as Gu Mingci's husband, sister, ex-boyfriend and friends.
The five people returned to the isolated island, but learned from the recording: Gu Mingci did not die eight years ago, but lived three months ago - the person who killed her was among them.
As the four testimonies were debunked one by one, an old case at the White Tower Theater that happened twelve years ago resurfaced. An innocent person was pushed into the abyss by everyone's lies, and Jiang Wen gradually discovered that he was not a bystander in this trial.
When the last testimony appears, he must face a question more terrifying than murder: Does a person become a murderer when he takes a life, or is it the moment he decides to sacrifice another person to save himself?
