Stop Laughing: My Spoiled Young Master Is Kind of Sweet

The sugar-roasted chestnuts from the West Street chestnut shop have smelled delicious for twenty years, and for twenty years I've been hitting Shen Mubai on the back of the head with them.

My name is Wen Yueli, and everyone in the capital knows I married a spoiled wastrel. To outsiders, our household is a riot: he makes me laugh, I keep him in line, and we live in gloriously chaotic happiness. But only I know that the first time that carefree young master Shen saw me, the purse at his waist was already crooked, and it never straightened again for the rest of his life.

This little notebook records twenty years of our lives: how I caught him hiding his private stash, how the whole street laughed at him carrying me on his back to the bridal sedan, how I scolded him for buying jujubes that were far too sour in the middle of the night... Every little thing tells the story of how I “kept him in line” for a lifetime.

But if you really ask me, I suppose it was his clumsy way of keeping the laughter in my life.
