[Dual Worlds] [Urban]
I've been writing for six years, and flopping for six years. Thirty-seven discarded drafts, all abandoned unfinished.
That night, just as I was about to hit delete...
The screen exploded. The Dao Ancestor from one of the drafts I'd abandoned crawled out of the document.
Only later did I learn that the characters I'd created with my own hands, then left their stories unfinished, hadn't disappeared.
They were trapped inside their incomplete stories. Some were caught in loops, others frozen in place, all waiting for an ending.
Ling Yue, kneeling before his master, with no way forward.
Egg Girl, having drawn a thousand pictures, with no one to see them.
Chen Mo, facing an spreading nuclear contamination with no solution.
Fang Ming said, "Suppressing them is only a temporary fix. Until their stories are complete, they'll have no peace, just like you."
So I reopened my computer and traveled through all my discarded drafts.
I experienced them firsthand, then completed the unfinished manuscripts, one word at a time.
It wasn't the author who decided the characters' fates.
The characters wrote their own endings.
One of the most interesting settings I've seen recently. The author writes that his character "breaks the wall" and comes to settle accounts with him. This is a great entry point. Moreover, every scrapped world is not written casually, but has a complete chain of cause and effect and character arcs. It can be seen that the author is really serious about constructing a world view. The interaction between Fang Ming and Dan Niang is the highlight of the book, both funny and poignant. Five-star recommendation, I hope more people will read this treasure.
