"My Great Tang will not suffer you wicked demons to run rampant!"
"Your Majesty, do not panic. This minister's tongue can shape the world and bring peace to the realm!"
In the third year of the Zhenguan era, the demons of the Classic of Mountains and Seas entered the world. The history books did not record them, mentioning only great fires, great floods, and people eating one another.
The transmigrator Su Yan had nothing but a sharp tongue to his name, yet the Illustrated Compendium of Demons Suppressed by the Mountains and Seas forced him to the brink: denounce a demon's true name in public, and it is "suppressed". His words become law, and a demon becomes a prisoner at his command. Get the name wrong, though, and his voice goes hoarse as demonic energy clings to him.
Others suppress demons with blades. Su Yan does it with his mouth.
The demons of this Great Tang fear not the blade, but having their true names spoken aloud.
