[Apocalypse, No System, No Superpowers]
In 2030, global temperatures suddenly surge, causing the Antarctic ice sheets to melt rapidly. At the same time, an ancient virus from a million years ago begins drifting from the ocean toward land.
A month later, along the coast, some people who have eaten recently caught seafood develop symptoms of weakness and a high fever. At first, nobody pays much attention.
On the third day, those afflicted begin attacking passersby indiscriminately. Within minutes, anyone bitten or exposed to their blood starts attacking others too.
They also seem to evolve over time. People eventually call them zombies and "special mutants."
Li Yang has spent several years working along the coast. He has just quit his job and plans to lie low for a few days before returning inland to find work. But then the virus breaks out. After hiding in his rented apartment for several days, he learns over the phone that his hometown has been affected too. His family decides to take refuge in the highlands. They'll leave markers along the way, so if he makes it home, he can follow them to find his family.
Lost and unsure what to do, Li Yang can only take things one step at a time. But as time passes, he begins to realize that something about him isn't quite right...
