1. Story Synopsis
This is a tragic ensemble story about love, death, and justice.
The story follows the intertwined fates of four main characters: criminal investigator Li Xiao, lawyer Xie Ci, forensic pathologist Wen Yan, and doctor Gu Chen. A series of interconnected disasters is set off by a string of murders. When the real culprit behind the Eye-Stitching Case is caught, and an ending that seems just finally arrives, the real tragedy is only beginning. Gu Chen dies unexpectedly, Wen Yan goes to prison after killing the wrong person in a quest for revenge, Li Xiao is killed in the line of duty, and three months later, Xie Ci takes his own life out of grief.
This is not a story where evil is punished and good is rewarded. It portrays the uncertainty of fate and the fragility of human nature, as well as ordinary people who still choose to love even in the most extreme circumstances.
2. A Note from the Author
This is not a story that will make you happy. While writing it, I wanted countless times to rewrite the ending and give those four people a chance to “live happily together from then on.” But in the end, I didn't.
Because I believe the meaning of tragedy lies not in showing destruction, but in helping people see how precious those moments illuminated by love were before everything fell apart.
I dedicate this book to everyone who has loved deeply, is loving deeply, or is about to fall in love.
May you never have to endure the hardships in this book.
May you have a better ending than the characters in this story.

I'll introduce the characters in a separate post.
