[Rural slice of life] + [Period] + [Farming] + [Wild imagination]

In his previous life, Liu Dashan graduated from medical school, only to be fired after a medical accident. His girlfriend broke up with him and jumped from a building. Reborn in 1960 in the Changbai Mountains during the Great Famine, he returns home after leaving the army to find his parents starved to death, his family property seized, and his younger sister sold.

After saving a statue, Liu Dashan gains the power to obtain immortal fruit and becomes brothers with the animals. A giant gray wolf is fiercely loyal; Da Xiong and Er Xiong repay his kindness; a clever, brave tiger, a well-behaved squirrel, and a goat and a mountain eagle help him find treasures in the mountains. When Liu Dazhu clears new fields, the animals pitch in. They help build houses and repair temples, and guard the fields. Together, they survive the famine and outsmart a gang of hunters. He leads everyone to prosperity and protects the animals as they defend their home.
