[Eastern Weird Fiction + Half Impostor + Villain + Single Heroine]
A Daoist maiden arrives in Li'e City. Rumor has it she can identify demons by their scent, and that she'll kill any celestial fox she encounters.
Hu Kui is a bubble tea shop clerk, a celestial fox who transmigrated here, and a half-impostor.
The strange thing is, all the demon-detecting talismans and peachwood artifacts are completely ineffective against him.
The maiden sits in his shop drinking fruit tea and tests him to his face. She sticks an appearance-revealing talisman right on him, but can't spot a trace of fox-demon features.
Demon strongholds across the city are being raided, the city gates are sealed, and there's no way out.
Hu Kui blends in with the demons, taking advantage of the chaos as he waits for his chance.
But that Daoist maiden seems to be everywhere.
"Why are you everywhere I go? Don't tell me you're not a celestial fox!"
Hu Kui's mouth twitches. "Lady, I'm really not!"
