In 1928, Zhang Weibo, the young master of the Zhang family in the capital, was obsessed with solving mysteries. His grandfather "exiled" him to the southern town of Nanlin Prefecture to stay with his second uncle.
On his way south, he ran into Huang Ruimei, a former schoolmate he had secretly loved for years. Before they could even catch up, a bizarre student disappearance case landed in his lap.
A missing student, his second uncle's deeply buried past, a mysterious man calling himself "Mister Black Robe," and an ancient tree worshipped as a god by the local people...
Zhang Weibo thought he was going away to escape the world, but instead he stepped right into a mystery that had been unfolding for twenty years.
Some people hide secrets with a city. Others hide them with a tree.
