Year 52 of Konoha: the Nine-Tails' attack.
The mastermind was someone who should have died long ago: Uchiha Madara. White-haired and withered, he clung to life in a vessel made from the fusion of White Zetsu and Black Zetsu. With only a trace of ocular power left, he forcibly tore open the seal at the moment Kushina went into labor and unleashed the Nine-Tails.
The Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, subdued the Nine-Tails at the cost of his life. But in his final moments, he saw a hunched shadow fading away on the rock wall. He realized that this disaster was far from over.
The Hokage had fallen, and Konoha was in turmoil. Danzo held the Uchiha responsible for failing to defend the village, but at the clan meeting, Fugaku looked toward the boy in the corner. "Obito, you were Minato's student. You will become the Fifth Hokage."
Everyone laughed. The dead-last, the king of tardiness, an Uchiha who hadn't even awakened his Sharingan: what right did he have to sit in the Hokage's seat?
But the secret letter Minato left behind contained just one sentence: "Make Obito Hokage. What he saw at Kannabi Bridge is more important than any eyes."
The boy dons an oversized Hokage robe and faces the elders' cold stares, his clan's trust, the blades of the ANBU, and the shadows closing in from Kumogakure, Iwagakure, and the Akatsuki beyond the village. Was the figure who faded away on that rainy night truly the end, or was it the first move in a game spanning sixty years?
He will prove to everyone that a Hokage need not be a genius. A Hokage is someone who, even when he can barely stand, still has to put himself in front of everyone else.
This time, it's Uchiha Obito's turn.
